With its commitment to support the instructional needs of the Benildean faculty members, the Br. Fidelis Leddy Center for Learning Resources (CLR) has come up with this guide on Embedding e-Resources in BigSky.
This guide aims to introduce you to the plethora of e-resources accessible via the CLR and provide easy-to-follow instructions on how to seamlessly integrate them into the BigSky environment.
For the last 15 years, the College has been subscribing to a number of online databases to supplement our print and audio-visual collections and to support the different learning styles of our library users. As of November 2019, we have the following in our online collections:
When integrating e-books, e-reports, e-journal articles, e-newspapers and e-magazines, e-theses and e-dissertations in BigSky, a stable URL should be provided. This stable URL is called persistent link or permalink. Since it is not session-specific and will not expire, it allows you to return to the exact page of the e-resource at a later time, or from any learning environment (on-campus or off-campus).
Some databases have a permalink tool/creator, usually located in their toolbox:
Other databases allow direct linking by providing an already-persistent browser URL in the address bar:
Both permalinks often include the proxy prefix for the institution. Specific examples for e-books and e-reports, e-journal articles, e-newspapers and e-magazines, and e-theses and e-dissertations are provided in this guide.
A proxy prefix is a string of text that lets the server know that you want to have authorized access to the e-database using your institution's subscription; hence, it is unique to every library/institution. In order for the permalink to enable access to active Benildeans, a proxy prefix should be included in the URL. For Benilde, it is lrc.benilde.edu.ph (if automatically generated by the database) or https://lrc.benilde.edu.ph/user/login?dest= (if inserted into the URL manually).
Oftentimes, the permalinks generated by database permalink tools/creators are proxied already. If the database provides an already-persistent browser URL in the address bar, just make sure that it contains our institution's proxy prefix. Otherwise, manually insert it before the original permalink before pasting in BigSky.

A detailed example is provided in this guide (under Ovid tab).
When inserting media on a web page, the embed code is needed. Streaming video platforms allow you to generate the embed code for each item. Copy the code as is and paste it in BigSky.
Should you wish to adjust the dimensions of the video, just edit the height and width values. An example is provided in this guide to embedding streaming videos.
BigSky is the official learning management system of Benilde. It serves as an online classroom where materials and activities of the courses are accessible.

CLR provides access to resources that are:
Content is produced by reputable agencies in the field, so quality, authoritativeness, and accuracy are assured.
E-resources are flexible in terms of format, currency, and copyright-compliance.
More importantly, bonafide members have equal access to carefully-selected materials relevant to the curriculum.
Using CLR resources in your online courses promotes:
Encouraging students to use CLR resources allows them to harness their research skills.
By making the students knowledgeable of CLR resources and how to effectively utilize them, we equip the students with the right tools and skills they will need in the real world outside school. We help produce analytical thinkers, problem-solvers, and lifelong learners.
