Demystifying AI for the enterprise : a playbook for business value and digital transformation
by
Artificial intelligence (AI) in its various forms -- machine learning, chatbots, robots, agents, etc. -- is increasingly being seen as a core component of enterprise business workflow and information management systems. The current promise and hype around AI are being driven by software vendors, academic research projects, and startups. However, we posit that the greatest promise and potential for AI lies in the enterprise with its applications touching all organizational facets. With increasing business process and workflow maturity, coupled with recent trends in cloud computing, datafication, IoT, cybersecurity, and advanced analytics, there is an understanding that the challenges of tomorrow cannot be solely addressed by today's people, processes, and products. There is still considerable mystery, hype, and fear about AI in today's world. A considerable amount of current discourse focuses on a dystopian future that could adversely affect humanity. Such opinions, with understandable fear of the unknown, don't consider the history of human innovation, the current state of business and technology, or the primarily augmentative nature of tomorrow's AI. This book demystifies AI for the enterprise. It takes readers from the basics (definitions, state-of-the-art, etc.) to a multi-industry journey, and concludes with expert advice on everything an organization must do to succeed. Along the way, we debunk myths, provide practical pointers, and include best practices with applicable vignettes. AI brings to enterprise the capabilities that promise new ways by which professionals can address both mundane and interesting challenges more efficiently, effectively, and collaboratively (with humans). The opportunity for tomorrow's enterprise is to augment existing teams and resources with the power of AI in order to gain competitive advantage, discover new business models, establish or optimize new revenues, and achieve better customer and user satisfaction.

Strategic planning & policy
by
Strategic planning is a management technique that helps organizations set future goals and objectives to achieve more stable and predictable growth. Strategic planning also identifies the actions required to reach these goals. With another parlance, it is a methodology by which a specific roadmap is recognized for growing a doable, coherent and strong business or organization:Strategic planning encourages, managers to take a holistic view of both the business and its environment. The importance of strategic planning is its ability to harness a series of objectives, strategies, policies and actions than can work together. Managing a company strategically means thinking and accordingly taking suitable action on multiple fronts. Due to involvement of multiple operations objectives, strategies, policies or actions may, on the surface, appear contradictory and mutually exclusive, but in reality they can work together. The process of strategic planning can be as important to an organization as the results. Strategic planning can be an especially valuable process when it includes employees in all departments and at all levels of responsibility thinking about how their activities and responsibilities fit into the larger picture, and about their potential contributions. This edition is comprised of nine chapters. Chapters are thoroughly revised and new chapters are added in this edition.

The hard and soft sides of change management : tools for managing process and people
by
Change isn't going anywhere. Learn how to manage it. We live in a wild world of volatility, unpredictability, chaos, and ambiguity, with change seemingly as the only constant. Change can be difficult. It often induces resistance, panic, and fatigue. And, as you may expect or have experienced first-hand, many organizations aren't handling change all that well, with many efforts resulting in failure. What you may not realize, however, is that some workplace change initiatives are stunning successes, rolling out smoothly and more easily embraced. Why do some change initiatives fail while others succeed? How can organizations and employees handle change better? In The Hard and Soft Sides of Change Management, Kathryn Zukof offers practices and approaches to help you and your organization roll out, receive, and manage change effectively. Namely, Zukoff shows that you need to manage the process (or the "hard") side and the people (or the "soft") side of change and find the sweet spot between the two. She demonstrates that when you integrate both sides, you and your organization can make change less of a hit-or-miss affair. Successful change management means deploying sound project management techniques that increase the odds of achieving the outcomes of your change initiative. It also means helping employees understand the need and vision for change, so they feel less threatened by it and become excited and energized by what's ahead. To deliver best results, you need to: Define the change and how to get there--with project charters and plans. Involve the right people in the right ways--from dedicated change teams to affected stakeholders. Build support, understanding, and awareness--with communication, training, and resistance management plans. Assess progress and adjust along the way--through action reviews and steps to tackle thorny issues. Capturing the inherently messy nature of workplace change--from technology implementations, mergers and acquisitions, and business transformations to office relocations and more--this book offers tangible insights to help you and your organization tackle change challenges. Follow the book's tools and practices to lessen the messy and objectionable parts of change and actively give your change initiatives the best chance for positive outcomes.

As enterprise adoption of AI and machine learning software becomes more commonplace, what does your company need to know to invest wisely in these technologies? In this detailed report, authors Rafael Coss, Dan Darnell, and Patrick Hall provide valuable information to help managers and practitioners make sound decisions for your organization in this commercial landscape. Analytics adoption has driven a wave of digital transformation across industries, but many projects face significant drawbacks. Through the course of this report, you'll examine two of these issues: how the lack of involvement and access by domain experts and end users causes projects to lose focus and why predictive models often end up as services rather than part of new or existing applications. The entire report covers a breadth of topics that include: The converging world of analytics: an up-to-date overview of the AI, ML, and analytics software ecosystem Modern AI applications: anatomy, key components, and detailed examples of the most promising use cases Adoption challenges for next-gen analytics: including organizational, infrastructure, modeling, governance, operational, and social issues Case studies: real-world perspectives from users of modern AI and ML software.

Selling social : procurement, purchasing, and social enterprises
by
"Since the 2010s, all levels of governments in Canada have gradually initiated social procurement as a policy tool to further their social values and political agendas. Social enterprises of various shapes and sizes across the country have served as partners in the execution of those agendas. Selling Social examines the experiences of these enterprises in social procurement and social purchasing. Selling Social presents the findings of a three-year Canadian research project detailing experiences of work integration social enterprises (WISEs) selling their goods and services to organizational purchasers, including governments, businesses, and non-profit organizations. Drawing on survey findings and interviews, the book explores a diverse group of social enterprises from across Canada, showcasing their successes and their challenges based on real-life examples to aid social enterprises that are considering this path. The book emphasizes the importance of including social and environmental considerations in procurement and purchasing decisions, particularly at larger scales and through public policy. In doing so, Selling Social extends the understanding of social enterprises beyond their social and economic outcomes and into the broader movement toward responsible procurement and purchasing."-- Provided by publisher.

New media futures

This book is intended for use in a large introductory class in new media in a program that covers the "full-stack" including critical/cultural studies, media management, diffusion of innovation, and synthetic media production. The first half of this basic sequence covered new media and democracy, finance, intellectual property law, basic games, and transmedia. The second half of the sequence covers many topics related to aesthetics, design, technology, and methodology. To that end, this book needed to be written so that it would be helpful for many different professors and trajectories of study. This book is in neither engineering, social science, nor the humanities, but also all of those. At the same time, this is a program in the Communication Studies and Media Studies traditions of the United States and that texture will come across
In the age of the internet, New Media has been more than just a platform for communication. Digital content has evolved in so many ways that the classic 3-act structure or the Hollywood standard of writing screenplays is no longer the standard. This course will provide the student the necessary mindset in forming narratives for multiple platforms. They will learn to map the “hero’s journey” through short form, if not episodic content. This course also introduces the concept of Transmedia Storytelling by creating “universes” with their own set of values, mythology and milieu, and where stories are developed through animation, live action, photography, action-figure design (sculpture),etc.

Stop Motion Animation - Creative films with LEGO figures
by
Stop motion animation is not only used in Hollywood films and cartoon series - anyone can create creative videos at home with simple equipment such as smartphones or cameras. LEGO® figures come to life: they play soccer, chat or recreate famous movie scenes. The results can be admired on Instagram or YouTube, for example, where many amateur filmmakers share their work with an active community. In this practical manual, Alexander Altendorfer shows you how to implement LEGO® films (brick films) yourself, from the idea to the publication. He lays the foundation with the cinematic basics of camera settings, image composition and frame rates. Then it starts!
Using many sample images, he explains the set structure and clearly shows how a finished film can be created from individual photos. Let your LEGO® characters run, jump, float and talk. Use tracking shots and effects and simulate running water or a flickering campfire.
The post-processing of the films is clearly explained for both Windows and Mac users using free programs. The author also gives you numerous suggestions for your own films so that you can start your stop-motion film straight away.
