The Br. Fidelis Leddy Learning Resource Center received a special book rack donation from Conservation Architect, Past Philippine Institute of Architects National President and Chancellor, Joel Vivero Rico, FPIA, UAP on March 5, 2021.
Called an Arkirack, the book rack’s design “captures architectural design techniques from the Pre-Colonial Era, Spanish colonial period, American occupation, the 20th century, and into the start of the modern 21st century.” [1] The Arkirack Project honors the Torogan House, the traditional Royal House of the Marano tribe in Southern Philippines, which is “accentuated with the colorful and artistic Panolong or wooden decorative end beam design, with all sides symbolizing status and leadership.” [2]
The donated arkirack is located at the 7/F, LRC-School of Design Arts Campus and features the LRC’s Philippine Architecture collection. While the Benilde campuses are still closed for students, the print resources may be borrowed for home use via the Reserve and Receive (R&R) Service.
