The Fashion Design and Merchandising Program takes a holistic approach in educating students by covering different sectors of Fashion from Haute Couture to Digital Retailing. It begins with the design process wherein the students learn Textile Design through traditional methods such as Handloom Weaving and Technological techniques such as Digital Printing. Students learn to produce their products from clothing to accessories by going through different clothing construction course wares. Lastly the students learn the Merchandising aspect that will allow their designs to be translated to a business by learning Entrepreneurship, Retail Management, Promotion and Brand Management.

The course will focus on the study of significant legal concepts on intellectual property rights, infringement, trademark, piracy, unfair competition and other related laws as well as give an introduction to Entrepreneurship. Offers a unique learning experience that provides the student with the necessary knowledge and skills to create a service business related to the student’s field of interest, which will further be developed in higher business courses.

It will also introduce other management issues that have impact on the practice of artists and designers such as marketing and promotions, organizational development. Since a lot of art and design practitioners become entrepreneurs and/or free-lancers, this course will also expose you to entrepreneurship and its requisites plus the many opportunities in the creative industries. This is a good introduction to the world of branding and branding strategies in their applications in a fashion context. In the development of the term, they will examine the different theoretical frameworks used to explain the complex nature of brands and branding and gain an understanding of the strategic brand management process and its relevance to fashion organizations.
