Computer Applications

The Computer Applications Program is a Business and IT course in one. It follows the Business Administration framework with an added touch of Information Technology as an area of study that would best compliment the business environment with the use of application software, and technology tools. The Computer Applications degree program is for those who want to make use of computing applications or implement information technology solutions/ applications without going through the complexities of software development. In addition, the program is also for those who want to understand the business environment, and help organizations identify, and implement process improvements and optimization. The program produces graduates that are responsive to industry needs; that is, deploying talents who can contribute to business process improvements, and be able to identify IT solutions that are best suited to the organization’s needs. Building on Fundamentals of Accounting 1 and 2 taken by students during their senior high school, this course is expected to recall, identify, explain and illustrate various accounting concepts, principles and procedures related to sole proprietorship engaged in service and merchandising type of business. It will first examine students’ ability to process business transaction of service and merchandising business and be able to prepare basic financial statements.

In order to broaden students’ knowledge on accounting procedures for other business organization, Business Accounting 1 will focus and introduce accounting for both partnership and corporation type of business organization. The students will be taught various procedures and processing of business transactions related to partnership formation, results of operation, dissolution and liquidation. This course will also include discussion on corporate formation and students will be tasked to process stock transactions and construct an equity section of the statement of financial position and will also require to do an stockholder’s equity analysis.

At the end of the term, the students are expected to prepare or construct basic financial statements with emphasis on the partnership capital statement and corporation equity section on the statement of financial position. The students learning experiences in this course will enhance their accounting foundation for entrepreneurial endeavor, augment, their analytical skill, critical thinking and decision making as future entrepreneurs.
